Ds1 (8) fell in PE at school yesterday and bashed his face really quite hard. He had a bruised cheekbone, swollen lip and bleeding gum round one of his front teeth. When I picked him up he was very quiet and seemed quite shocked.

The teacher gave me a brief account about what happened. Later I asked ds for his version and he told me he doesn't remember. The last thing he remembers was being told to go on the benches (I think he tripped on/off the benches) and the next he was getting up off the ground.

Does this completely lack of memory about what happened mean he was knocked out, or is it just being dazed and shocked?

Seems fine today btw, apart from being a bit sore and a battered face

no, it doesn't necessarily mean that he was knocked out. Did he seee a doctor?

No, didn't see a doc. Did think about it, but last time ds knocked himself out all they did was tell us to keep an eye on him.

judging by his injuries and the fact that he can't remember what happened, you should speak to a doctor

I think he will be okay without eeing a doctor, he really is fine today. I was just a bit concerned that he might have knocked himself out and the school didn't even notice

My son did this playing rugby. He cannot remember anything for about 25 minutes during which he continued to play on and apparently played pretty well .
He just kind of woke up during the game and at that point had to sit down because he was feeling wobbly. He didn't remember the collision of being looked at on the pitch and cleared to play on.
The St Johns guy who had checked him after the original knock was a little embaressed when he then had to come off and go to hospital.
He was absoloutely fine.
