I'm 23F. I just wanted to ask what this line on my nail just in case. Some more info:

  • It doesn't hurt at all (even when I apply pressure on it)
  • When I press on my finger or shine a light on it, it looks transparent-ish (it looks like how other nail ridges look, but when I shine a light on it, it looks like the skin underneath the nail is cut. See the 3rd picture in the image)
  • When I cut the nail, there was no line/anything on the tip.
  • The line isn't on my whole nail, just a quarter-ish of it

I have those and it's due to psoriatic arthritis.

@Tempone Thank you for the reply! Is it common/normal for that to happen to my nail? I was worrying about it since I didn't know what it was

There was a news article last year where a beauty therapist spotted a line on her clients nail and told her that it was a sign of skin cancer. Turns out she was right.

How long has it been there? It looks like something has separated the nail bed from the nail in that area, like a splinter. If it doesn't grow out with the nail definitely get it checked out.

I got this. It was the start of olicholyosis where the nail seperates from the bed. Mine was due to the gel UV lamp. do you have gel/acrylics? If so I'd stop. I ended up with most of my nails coming away because I ignored the lines!
