Should i go to the doctor or am I a hypochondriac?

I have had a funny pain in the right hand side of my stomach for a few months. not all the time, just every now and again. it is like a pulling feeling and sometimes a bit sort of stingy. Vyer hard to describe.

Secondly, in the evening I often I get a skipped heartbeat or two and then it rghts itself. I had atrial fibrillation a few years ago and had a 24 hour monitor and that noted one skipped beat.

I am sure the two things aren't related but going to the doctor with 2 odd symptoms makes me feel like a moaner. Would you go or not?

Personally I wouldn't unless the pain was getting worse. My heartbeat goes all over the place - skips a few beats, rights itself, skips a few more, few quick beats then back to a regular rythmn ..... I thought that was normal!!

GrinningSoul · 06/02/2008 18:51

i too have the skippy heartbeat, and always have. sometimes it seems to almost stop completely for a few seconds, and then starts up again. the adreneline rush when that happens is fantastic!

if the stomach pain is unchanging and not severe i probably wouldn't do anything about it - or just save it til i was going to gp for something else.

OK fine I won;t go. My husband told me to go as he worries about heart things (2 of my uncles died early from heart disease). He never goes to the doctor himself but is always advising me to go.

My heart does that all the time, notice it more when relaxing. Doctor has told me it's normal and that loads of people have it, they just don't notice. I am a terrible hypochondriac since having kids. Which came first, the palpitations or the stomach thing? Stress can cause excess stomach acid which could be the cause of your pain and palpitations, could be connected. Doesn't sound like you need to worry, I agree you could mention it when going about something else.

To buck the trend I think you should go to the docs. Pain is never normal its a warning that something isn't quite right but it may be nothing to worry about. Also your heart shouldn't be skipping a beat again may be nothing to worry about but you need a medic to tell you that for sure.

ksmum - Where is "right side of stomach"? Your stomach is right under your lungs, a bit towards your left. If you have a pain on the right side of your middle, I would think that is not your stomach at all.

I sometimes get the skipped heart beat as well. Never notice my heart beat except when it skips.

i had pain in my stomach, and it was gastritis, easily sorted with omeprazole for a month.....
stomach very tender and sore, especially if pressed...

always go to the docs if you are worried especially about your heart

noddyholder · 07/02/2008 17:57

I have a heart condition which is well controlled but doctors have told me to always notify them if it misses beats or becomes irregular so i would get it checked out and tell him about your stomach at the same time

3Ddonut · 07/02/2008 18:03

Is your heart missing a beat or are you just aware of it beating? If it is skipping and is irregular, get it checked if you're experiencing palpitations in the evening, it is quite normal, more usual after coffee or alcohol.

If your pain is in the right hand side just above your hip bone and is there from time to time, could it be ovulation pains, they are more common on the right side and are not there every month, it can feel quite tender.

As Lulu says though, if in doubt, check it out! I'm sure your GP would rather see you with 'nothing' than for you to leave something that could require treatment.

Oh no I had convinced myself it was fine. Funny I too am more of a hypo since I have had a child because I worry about not being around. When I said stomach |I meant abdomen, not my actual stomach. it is under my ribs on the right side that the pain is though it seems to have mostly gone. And the heart thing is not related to cafffeine (don't have it) or alcohol (do but not that often any more and when I do it is not more noticeable)
