On a/b for throat inf but only on second dose so not kicked in yet.
Keeps having monster temps accompanied by rigors as the temp is building up..... despite max dose capol/calpofen. All he wants to do is cuddle and wrap up in blanket, is it ok to cuddle or should i be stripping him of at this point???
It seems so horrible to be striping a quivering two year old off!!!! when he actually has the temp I srip him off.

Strip him down to pants/nappy and tepid sponge him.He will NOT like it.
If you are not hard-hearted enough for that, let him keep a vest/teeshirt and sponge his hands/wrists and forehead/nape of neck.
Once you get his temp down a bit he won't want to snuggle with a blanket and the shiverring will stop.
If you cant prize the blanket off him, swap it for a sheet.
Offer ice lollies and/or other fluids.

swap the blanket for a sheet.... why did i not think of that!?!
I think I am a bit weak when it comes to striping off they just seem so pathetic when they have the shakes!!!
Thanks for that, hopefully we wont have anymore if the a/b kick in.

whats rigors?

belgo · 05/02/2008 17:26

rigors are uncontrollable shaking due to a high temperature, the person remains concious. It's actually quite scarey to see.

fordfiesta · 05/02/2008 17:33

yep... horrible to watch and horrible for ds as well. They only seem to last for 4/5 mins but still horrible!!!!!
