Excuse the teeth..

I've just found this hard lump on the inside of my lower gum.

It's rock hard, doesn't hurt and I'm now convinced I've got oral cancer.

Am I best seeing a doctor or a dentist?

Definitely a dentist. Good luck x

I had one for a bit same place. Had a good poke with the floss brush. There was a bit of meat stuck hard between two teeth. Got it out bled a bit. Kept rinsing with mouthwash flossing with the brush. It softened and slowly went away. I think it must have been a bit of infection. BUT otherwise I'd have checked with the dentist

Don't worry but 100% definitely dentist not doctor. Hope all well.

siroodlesofnoodles · 13/01/2023 23:13

I've given it a good going over with my electric toothbrush and those little floss sticks.. it's not between my teeth though, I can rest my tongue underneath it. It's a solid lump.

My dental practice is good though, I should be able to get an appointment quickly.

I was never as health conscious, now I've got young children I'm very flappy.

It's a swollen gland. I had one last year. Lasted about 2 months. It was like it was never there then! Definitely see your dentist just to rule out anything nasty ... But I am 100% convinced it's just a swollen gland. Smile

Does it move or is it fixed? Because I can feel a small lump that I can move around with my tongue. Haven’t really paid attention to it before your post. Maybe the same thing? I’m like you OP since having kids, I keep thinking any health problem is cancer - it’s not nice is it!

RoRosmama · 13/01/2023 23:24

I could have written have this. I have one exactly the same and in the same place. It's rock hard and and half the size of a pea. It's terrifying me!
I'm not sure how long I've had it to be honest.
Dentist checks for us. Hope all goes well OP!

siroodlesofnoodles · 13/01/2023 23:26

It's fixed, and because I'm now aware of it I keep running my tongue over it.

The one thing is - I was at the hygienist like 10 days ago and she gave me a good going over so maybe she just poked a bit too hard? I'd be very happy with this being a swollen gland or a tiny little infection or anything other than cancer. Obviously.

I do apologise for my dramatics, it's just I'm 32 now and that seems to be when things start happening. You hear so many horror stories. Sad

A saliva stone or a torus mandibularis (I think that's how you spell it).

Most of your tooth like an iceberg is below the surface which is why I think I had a bit of an infection. I try not to think about my teeth because it costs so much money 🙈.

rattlinbog · 14/01/2023 09:22

I've had one of these for years! Not an issue at all, it's just bone growth.

ACCx · 19/10/2025 11:23

hey, I think I have one of these beginning to form. Same position but smaller than the one photographed. I saw an emergency dentist that didn’t seem fussed in the slightest but didn’t say what it was. Was everything okay in the end?
