Has anyone taken tranexamic acid before?

A bit of an ignorant question really ... the dr prescribed TA which I was told to start taking on the first day of my period to help stop serious flooding and lessen flow etc. The thing is I didn't ask when I stop taking it ... do I just take it for the first couple of days? If so, when I stop does it all start up again? I am so stupid I should've thought to ask the dr. I started taking it on Friday evening and has been sooo light for last couple of days that thought it was all over so stopped and haven't taken any this morning but now have bad period pains. I don't know whether I should still be taking them. Does anyone know or have any experience of this? Pleeeeaaasee.

I take it every month - I take it from first day of period and stop once period is over, or very nearly over. You can always start taking it again now if your period is starting again - it isn't like AB's or painkillers where you need to be strict about when you take it, it's more as & when you need it. That's what I've always done anyway...

thanks thebecster ... another strange question for you (and sorry if tmi) do you know if we bleed a finite amount every month or does it vary from time to time. I had sort of assumed that because the flow was slowed down by the TA that it meant that it would go on for longer. I have been bleeding sooo much over the last few months that I can't believe that the TA has lessened it so greatly in time as well as quantity. Fantastic stuff if it has! Though slightly bemused by the cramps now though.

I take it every month and have done so for years. It helps me a little but i have no other choice. I take it with mefenamic acid and am on the mini pill too but i still flood at least once a month. I take it 3 times a day for the first say 4 days (when at its heaviest

thanks everyone ... it seems to be doing the trick so I will just have to see how it goes. I certainly hope it is the answer as the sitting on the loo for 2 days a month isnt really an option as far as work and my ds are concerned!
