Swollen gland a month after virus

A month ago at the beginning of December I had a horrible virus that caused a very sore throat infection and laryngitis. It took about 10 days to two weeks to clear up although probably another week or so of not being 100%. I was thankfully fine by Christmas. In the week before Christmas I had some minor ear ache and the glands on the side of my neck had swollen. It was a bit painful for about three days but went away itself. However my glands, particularly my right which was the same side as the earache, are still swollen now. They aren't painful but still enlarged.

I feel well again but I'm just starting to get concerned about the glands. I know that swollen glands can be the result of a virus (but also more serious things) but how long should I wait to see if they go back to normal before calling the GP? Monday will be three weeks since I first got the ear ache and noticed they were particularly swollen.

@TheWorstWeek mine stay up for weeks and sometimes months after a virus. A couple of mine halfway down my neck have never fully gone down! If the nodes are below 1.5cm and appear not long after an illness GPs tend not to worry. Obviously get it checked out if you’re anxious but I wouldn’t be overly concerned personally x

Thank you very much for the response. I thought because it'd been "triggered" by the recent virus that that would probably be the cause but my health anxiety makes me always think worst case scenario.

I've just worked out what the lump is behind my ear. I've also had a particularly nasty flu/virus which has lasted more than 3 weeks.
I imagine the lump will go in the next month or so. Hopefully anyway!

Did yours ever go down? I have one on the back of my head/top of neck area that's been there for 6 weeks after being ill. GP wasn't too concerned but she has said to organise a blood test to put my mind at rest

It did go away after another week or two. It did flair up the next time I had a cold a month or two later but it went away quickly that time. Now it's absolutely fine.
Hope everything is okay with you.
