Horrific what I think is tonsillitis

I have what I think is the most horrific tonsillitis... I say that because I've never had it before so I don't know what it's meant to be like. I've had a fever, dripping in sweat, head ache, really bad throat pain and white pustules over my tonsils and the back of my throat which honestly look grotesque. The dr has given me antibiotics but they aren't helped one bit so can't be bacterial.
Is it normal for tonsillitis to be so bad?? I've now had this for 4 days and it's only getting worse. More grotesque white pustules spreading around my mouth.
I know I am consulting Dr mumsnet.... but I just want to know from people who often get tonsillitis if this is the norm?!?!

Get some hydrogen peroxide from the chemist, dilute as per instructions and gargle every hour with it. Will oxidise bacteria on tonsils and clear it up really quickly. The throat numbing spray is good too for the pain.

See a doctor again, it may be resistant to the antibiotics you had or you may have quinsy. Are you struggling to swallow your saliva?

No not struggling to swallow saliva. Just incredibly painful when swallowing but still can.
Good shout with the hydrogen peroxide. Haven't heard of that before

I'd be asking for a different antibiotic.

when I have it, only ibuprofen + codeine will tackle the pain. I never tried hydrogen peroxide but I did gargle with TCP - the pack will tell you the dilutions.

wish you better asap Flowers
