Dp had his in April. Now it is Dec and he is STILL coming back positive on his sperm tests. Has the vasectomy not worked? He has point blank refused to have it done again after the butcher's job that was done on him last time.

It depends on how soon he can 'clear' what was already in the tubes IYSWIM.

Goldfishincenseandmyrhh · 03/12/2004 18:37

I thought it was normally 3 months. My dh went for 3 tests a a month apart and that was it. He had the op in March and by the end of July was given the all clear.

I can beat that Cha. My dh had his done last November and still has positive tests, althoug interspersed with negative ones which is the bit we can't understand. I have finally persuaded him to go back (I think he is afraid of having to have the op done again - his was a bit butchered too, but healed well eventually and hasn't given him any "problems") and he has an appointment with the doctor in January. Try to persuade your dp to do the same otherwise you are back to square one contraception-wise.

The 'clearing of the tubes', I mean how many times do we have to do it?? They told us about 30 ejaculates to use up what was left, can safely say we have done that by now. Unless he had an unfeasibly large resevoir... He does have 5 kids and can get a woman pregnant at 50 paces. Anyone know what we should do now (apart from buy more condoms ?

Posts must have crossed I'llbe... My lord - that is a long time. What have the quacks said? Is that why you are going back? It does seem that for both of our men they didn't quite sew the tubes up properly, there must be a tiny little hole that a few strengthy chaps swim through. Dp is refusing to even think about what the next step is - maybe when we finally run out of condoms and I refuse him conjugals, he will be forced into going to the clinic again. Poor thing, it really was a horrible op - they told him it would take 20 mins and two small cuts - 3 lacerations and 45 minutes later he emerged in a blood stained gown - one man in the waiting room left when he saw him!

Sorry, I had to smile at your description! But I know how horrible it was for my dh too. We haven't actually seen anyone yet, but will hear what they have to say in January. We are not helped by the fact that my dh has got fed up with doing the tests and so hasn't done one now for months. He probably is clear now, but he won't know.

MarsselectionboxLady · 04/12/2004 13:14

My DH had his last Monday (sound of singing: Hallelujah!!!). He has offered nothing but sympathy for your fellas. Sorry, I have nothing to add but I hope your DPs finally empty their unfeasibly large resevoirs lol. Sorry! My DH thinks that he has unfeasibly large loads. Bless

Forgot to say earlier, we also had no problems conceiving four children so maybe there is something significant in that fact, though I can't understand where the sperm are coming from if they are gone somethimes and then back again later.

Cha · 06/12/2004 16:19

Yes, my man is (was?) certainly fertile - we conceived both of ours using the cap. I think he just has to sneeze in a high wind and women for miles around find themselves with child. He too is sick of doing the 'test' - it took about 4 months to get him to go for the last one. Keep me posted as to what your doctors say to your dh. And Marslady - tell your man to keep wearing the tight knickers. Very fetching with the swollen scrote.
