Spotting & cramps before period is due-anyone had this?

The past 2 months,I've had of/off spotting & cramps anything between 1-3 days before my period is due.Last night I had spotting & cramps & was sure that AF had started,but today nothing.I wondered if this is something fairly common or not?

I'm 39,so I suppose I should expect that my cycles aren't always going to be the same,but apart from when I was on the pill,things haver always been pretty regular & predictable.

I get this but only since having copper coil fitted - do you have one of these? I was reassured by gynaecologist that it's normal with a coil

I have had this since I had my dd and one of my friends has had exactly the same experience. I have just taken it as my 'new' cycle after my body went through something as massive as having a baby. Means total cycle length is more like 30-34 days (used to be so regular on 28 days you could set your clock by me) but at least its consistent.

Thank you both.I was getting a little worried,but feel better about it now,after hearing your experiences.DH has had the snip,so I'm not using any form of contraception at the minute,so it isn't that.I suppose I'd better accept that this is normal for me now.
