Scared to have kidney infection atm

My kidney infection seems to be getting worse daily, despite antibiotics. And our local A&E has declared a critical situation with waits of up to 4 days to be seen. I'm a bit scared what to do next...

Hi Op, have you got a walk in centre near you? Have you had the urine cultured? I had the beginnings of a kidney infection recently, and the culture ended up showing that the bacteria responsible was highly resistant to nitrofurantoin (the antibiotic I was taking). It could be that you're not on the right antibiotics. Not helpful re the A&E situation, but if you have to go you have to go. Kidney infections are nasty.

Thank you, helpful to know. We do have a walk in but there are insanely long waits there. Maybe I should try calling 111. Its definitely getting worse, I feel really bloated and sick now too :(

What did you end up doing @OddSocksAndHollyhocks?

I stayed home...I was advised there are waiting times of up to 8 hours in our walk in and 12 hours in A&E with many patients staying in their cars, and I decided I'd rather be in pain at home. But it has been getting steadily worse and I've got bad pelvic pain / pain urinating now too :(

I just wondered how you are getting on? I have posted a similar thread as I’m in the same situation. I’ve had 3 weeks of a kidney infection and 4 lots of ABs. Feel horrendous. I’m sure I need IV antibiotics. The GP told me that they aren’t allowed to refer you to hospital unless it’s life or death because they are so busy so I’m just sat riding it out at home

I am actually just starting to feel a little better thank you, however wouldn't say I'm back to normal. Literally only painkillers and hot water bottles have helped and there have been lots of times I've thought that's it, I'm just going to have to go to hospital. I've been drinking an absolute ton of water.

Can you go to a private doctor?
