Have a blood sugar monitoring kit at home now, and have just tested my son's - his was 5.3.

Tested mine and it's 13.3

Isn't this high? I normally test it in work and it's between 4 and 7.

If you’re normally between 4 and 7 your result today is skewed by illness and meds! Drink lots of water and eat some veggies/ salad/ cabbage/ broccoli if you can. Have you got any apple cider vinegar? A shot of that and a litre of water will help bring it down.

hope you feel better soon. My sons blood sugar shot up when he had a virus recently, he’s usually in the 5’s too. Back to normal now.

Was your son unwell or why did you think he needed testing? Just wondered why you tested him? I would test both of you first thing before any food and take any results to GP - fasting, random and plus 2 hrs after eating are all useful to know -
13.9 is high but see what it is tomorrow-

I was suspicious of my son because of a few things, he's so tired lately and really slim, slimmer than ever. But his was 5.5, so pretty normal.

If you’re on steroids they raise your blood sugar. I’m my ward we test anyone on steroids BM daily regardless of wether they have Diabetes. Also you are absolutely not going to go into DKA with that reading…

Thanks, feel so much better reading your reply x

it is high, but it’s not an emergency high, so don’t panic. Yes, the infection and pred will have raised it, but you still need to visit your GP in the new year to get it checked again properly.

Thanks

That's very high for two hours after eating.

Test a few more times and refer to the GP if you keep getting readings like that.

Thanks I'm sure it's because I'm taking prednisolone for pneumonia x
