Pilonidal cyst wound reopened - and pregnant

I'm not sure if it's a new cyst at the same site of the healed wound, or if the wound is reopening (6 months after it healed) but I'm 15 weeks pregnant and it's very painful.

I assume they won't operate again under a GA - does anyone know what my options will be?

I'm terrified tbh. It was hell and agony last time and the recovery I found so traumatic!

Literally just a tiny lump on the scar and seems to be weeping slightly. Very painful.

Anyone got any experience of this?

It may need packing, please contact 111 and tell them, an open wound will need looking at.

Ahh poor you, I had one a few years ago and it was hell on earth. As your surgery is so recent, could your growing pregnant body potentially be putting strain on the skin and therefore the scar has been pulled open slightly? I’ve no medical knowledge whatsoever but it sprang to mind and wanted to try reassuring you.

Maybe a course of antiobiotics can stave it off until you can cope with surgery post-birth? Good luck!

It might be okay if you get antibiotics. If not, you might be able to get it cleaned and packed under local anaesthetic. Hope it gets sorted for you. I had one years ago. They are painful.

Thanks all. I called 111 at 11am and haven't had a call back yet. Really panicking tbh as the pain is the same as the last cyst I had. It's such a horrible condition :-(

Currently got a heat pad on it.... will see what tomorrow brings and hopefully a doctor calls!

I’ve had this. I had surgery and had it packed and drained yet it wasn’t long before it was back. I feared that it would need more surgery but it seemed self limiting - it would regularly become inflamed then burst and then subside. After a few years it stopped doing that and it hasn’t troubled me in years. I’m not advocating that approach by the way, but for me it was never that painful (after the op) so it was manageable

So @Querty123456 I'm inclined to think it's just the scar playing up and not a new cyst, I had a bath and put a heat compress on last night and this morning it's not as painful and seems a bit better.

Weird to have it become inflamed again 6m later but hoping it just sorts itself out like yours did....

Our son has had these, several operations and infections later, he has got the T shirt iyswim

But obviously never been pregnant

It may just be infected, hopefully somebody will look at it soon and get a swab done for you to reassure you by giving you correct antibiotics and that will calm it down
