Flu/cold remedies and pregnancy

I've got a truly horrible cold/flu thing: temperature, shakes, sore throat, headache, sick feeling. DH has also got it which makes looking after our 1yo challenging!

Ideally I'd be taking Lemsip/Beechams (ordinary paracetamol doesn't seem have the same effect), but have tried to avoid doing so as I may be pregnant.

Does anyone have any advice / views on whether I'm being over-cautious?

I was advised when pregnant to take paracetamol and hot lemonade which did seem to help, alternatively try hotbovril with salt and pepper in it.

Hope you feel better soon

I'm far from overly careful about meds, generally, but would avoid Beechams etc, sorry. I think anything with the stuff that dries up secretions is a bad idea, and they tend to have them in.

I did, however, resort to some of dd1's Medised at night when I was pregnant with dd2 (and OB said it was ok), because as well as big cold I had dreadful itching, and the antihistamine helped. I think I took a 12 yr old's dose

You can make a great soothing drink with lemon, honey, and fresh ginger - good for the throat and full of vitamin C. Also, spoonfulls of Manuka honey are good for cough/sore throat. And definitely take paracetamol for the fever.

Hope you feel better soon, xx

Hot bovril with salt and pepper (yeurch!) - would marmite work?

Oh hell, I felt so ill yesterday that I took two lemsips. I'll stick to paracetamol. When I was pregnant with DS I only took paracetamol, I'm not even sure I'm pregnant (just been TTC and then feeling slightly queasy in the mornings - tho a different sick feeling to morning sickness the first time round). Trust me to get ill now!

Neither DH or I feel able to walk to a shop to get lemon/ginger - rather tragic as the shop is less than 10 mins away! Maybe tomorrow?!
