Lost my voice, keep reading that I should be whispering but...

It's the only way I can talk.

I can't make any noise above a whisper. It's really stressful.

Whispering does hurt but if I didn't do it I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone at all.

Has anyone had this? When will my voice come back?

I don't know but I feel your pain. Day 2 of no voice and I'm whispering fruitlessly into the ether while everyone ignores me. Arghhhh! (that's a silent scream).

Hope you get well soon 🎄

Please don't whisper. You can cause permanent damage. Just don't talk at all.
No alcohol.
No caffeine.
No spice.
No dairy.
Pineapple juice is good.

Warm drinks
Sleep
Absolutely no whispering.

Use a voice assistant on your phone such as Siri. Turn your text to speech!

Shooshan · 24/12/2022 17:24

Title should say shouldnt*

It's frustrating. I feel invisible

Hi, I’ve just had the flu. Completely lost my voice and even whispering hurt. I am day 8 and although my voice is still not completely normal I can speak again.

Tabletoppot · 24/12/2022 17:27

I had this years ago with laryngitis, it came back quickly but I was given steroids (not in the UK), it came on literally overnight and was very odd!

DarkKarmaIlama · 24/12/2022 17:29

@Shooshan

Just realised it’s you. How are you getting on is there any improvement at all? I think I’m on say 8 or 9 it’s been a blur 🤦‍♀️. Hope you feel better soon xxx

I've lost my voice for a week before. After day 1 or 2 I gave up trying to talk at all. Just write stuff down if important.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 24/12/2022 17:33

Mines gone too, I'm talking as normal but I'm very croaky and some sounds are not actually audible to other people but I know i'm making them 😀

Lots of warm ribena feels soothing although doesn't improve the sound of it. Im just letting it play out and hopefully it will come back soon, been 5 days so far but NHS says it can take 2-3 weeks with Laryngitis.
