Genital herpes outbreak and want to cry

I've named changed for this as I'm embarrassed, ashamed and in pain 😮‍💨

I've had genital herpes for over 15 years. It's rare I get an outbreak but when I do, it's usually only one or two blisters. I've been having the usual tingling, aching and burning all over my vulva and I've just noticed the spots. But they're right in the bit under my clitoris and above my urethra and it's so painful!! And there's about 6 which is unusual for me.

I thought subsequent outbreaks were supposed to be milder?

Honestly I could cry. I feel so shit that this is in my body and always will be 😭😭

Sorry for the whiney post but I'm TTC and this just makes me think I shouldn't even risk having a baby.

Ah no this was me last week! I was diagnosed about 7 months ago and mine seems to be Always flaring up and around the same area!

Oh, OP, I feel your pain! I’ve had outbreaks since 1983! Ibuprofen taken regularly, and nice warm baths help a lot, as does keeping the area dry after the bath. Sometimes I get pills from on-line pharmacy which do help but they are expensive so I keep them for the worst outbreaks. The menopause has not made any difference to the outbreaks.

It’s awful I sympathise so much.My flare ups aren’t as bad as the first one,but sometimes I get a pretty bad one and it’s awful.I feel so unwell with it too.

RustyExhaust · 04/02/2023 22:58

I hadn't had an outbreak in years and then lo and behold last week I noticed I was sore in the usual place Angry Did have a particularly nasty virus just after Christmas which took ages to get over so am assuming I'm a bit run down and that's why it happened. Still gutted though as stupidly thought maybe it wouldn't come back after all this time, must be about 7 years since the last time. Even had the horrible nerve pain down the inside of my leg which hasn't happened since the early days Sad Sending sympathy OP, hope it buggers off soon Flowers

Take a pregnancy test. Seriously. Pregnancy suppresses your immune system, so you’re more likely to get an outbreak when you fall pregnant.

There could be a silver lining to this as you are TTC. If I’ve guessed wrong, then masses of sympathy and fingers crossed it clears soon.

Short term , put warm/hotish water into a washing up plastic bowl , two full spoons of bicarbonate of soda and sit your privates in it , it helps ( don’t use the bowl for washing dishes after 😂)

Greenshake · 04/02/2023 23:41

You have nothing to be embarrassed about, don’t be so hard on yourself 🌷

If you get a flannel pat down with some salt water that can help!
