has anyone come off the pill and lost a significant amount of weight?

I've convinced myself that I'm having problems losing weight because of the pill (have chatted to nurse at surgery and she has agreed that it might be a factor).

I'm thinking of switching to a coil, not overly thrilled about the idea but soooo sick of never losing any weight or it being soooo slow to come off.

Just wondered if anyone had come off weight and noticed any difference in their weight loss or gain generally?

Thanks

(I know it's not a magic cure but at the moment am just looking for any boost to weight loss and my motivation for sticking with diet and exercise)

Hi don't have experience you are looking for, but I have a coil and I think its great. Why not give it a go any way if you loose weight all the better?

When i has my son who was a year old yesterday i was 13 stone. I am now 9 stone.

I had a coil fitted about 4ths ago and have put it down to that. i think the pill puts weight on but over a long time so you dont notice.

The coil is brill. It is slightly uncomfortable to be fitted but takes 10 mins and can be done at your docs surgery.

Go for it. Good luck. By the way I do walk every day with the LO.

This isn't entirely relevant but before I had DS I had all sorts of hormone problems and over the years I put on about 1 1/2 stone. Since having DS things seem to have settled down and over the past 18 months I've not only lost all my baby weight but virtually all the rest of it as well, and it's still going.

So I definitely think female hormones can have an effect on your weight, therefore coming off the pill could certainly help you.

I agree with you twinkle

i'd have a look at the mirena coil thread before you decide - lots of people think they've gained weight with it and i'm one of them...

lucylala · 02/02/2008 23:42

glucose and twiggy - is it a mirena coil or a copper coil you use?

The bit that's freaking me out is the 'checking your strings'!?! I don't want my hubby to be able to feel strings with his penis or his fingers during sex...(sounds daft I know but that's the big thing that's bothering me!)

Gosh i dont check my strings . My hubby doesnt feel them though.
Im on the non horminal one, did not want to have any extra hormones flying about.

lucylala · 02/02/2008 23:50

oh right, that's reasurring then - what does 'erm, dp' mean?

I have copper coil, husband can't feel the threads, neither can I. A family planning nurse told me the 'threads soften with my cervical mucus'
like twigy I wanted to get away from hormones, thats why I had a copper coil.
I have never checked the threads. I think if you get it put in by a nurse/Dr who does it often enough you should have no problems with it, and I have not.

I was really worried when i had mine fitted but was the best thing ever.

lucylala - I came off the pill in October weighing 11st 7lbs . I am now 9st 7lbs so I have lost 2 stone. I am a weightwatchers member and have been trying to lose weight, however, I have never lost weight this quickly before and I am certain that coming off the pill has helped.
