Verruca questions not quite answered in the archives...

Some very helpful old threads on this, but I'm unclear about a few things.

Questions:
GP#1 told me ~6 years ago they were corns, new GP I saw a few weeks ago says they're actually verrucas. Should I visit a chirodopist to be absolutely sure what they are? They seem to have multiplied, so I think must be verrucas, right?

GP-2 prescribed strong salicyic cream, which has lifted the few I applied it to, but the pack only came with a handful of plasters with these little washer=shaped pads that are supposed to go on the verruca under the plaster. But I have a dozen or so of the warts. Plus, the thin dinky nail file that came with the kit is pathetic, not even raspy enough.
Can I use plasters straight on the anti-wart cream, or do I need the sort of washer things to lift the plaster surface away from the cream on the actual verruca?
Can you buy a big meaty file? From where?
When you file them down, doesn't that spread the virus like crazy?
Can I get away without filing or trimming off?

I'm keen to try the banana treatment.
Do they just drop off when using banana skins, or should I file verrucas off, still?
TIA

Sound like verrucas, if you can leave them to go anyway in their own time

I use a schol file and bazuka and that usually works.

You can use a plasta direct on the salicylic acid. Just let it dry and go white first. Althernatively you could use corn plasters.

The best way I have found to use hte bananas is thus (and I swear by them)

Use a Salycylic acid treatment for 1 week as directed (i.e peel the skin, file etc.). You will find that the verucca sinks.

Use the banana (flesh side down, chage 24hrs, wipe etc. as you will find in archives) for 1-2 weeks. You will find that the verucca starts to raise back up again and the dead skin (from Salycylic) starts to seprate from healthy skin at the edges. No need to file.

When skinstarts to peel go for a long swim (with plaster/sock), over long bath (30min+). Skin softens greatly. Using a pair of tweezers peel the softened from teh sperated edge to remove verucca from the heathy skin making sure the black core comes too. You can treat without he bath/swim but it takes longer to sperate - but basically ysess the banana literally seperates the verucca from healthy skin. Works much better IME with a weeks treatment with Bazooka/salicylic acid.

Ph and as for a file- a nail file will do the job.

we tried banana skin on the kids - it just slipped out of place overnight - maybe more effective on an adult who stays in bed .

I found bazuka gel works - just stick it on (no need for plasters)- pick off every few days (it say more often but seems to make no difference), and file if you want to (normal emery board is fine) and reapply. Eventually they go - can take a month or more.

You can do them all or just the main one - it seems once you kill the main one they all go anyway.

I had one for years and years and it was never a problem - then when I was pregnant it spread and I got warts on my hands too (urrrgggghhhh) - but they all went at the same time.

Just like to say thank you to everyone who has posted about banana skin. OH has been trying this for 4 days and the smaller ones are almost gone. He put the banana skin on overnight with a sock over it to hold it in place. No filing, although we'll try that if the bigger one doesn't now disappear.

He thought it was a corn but looked at under a manifying glass corns look like normal skin and verrucas look more like cauliflowers, possibly with black bits in. Also had more than one, although the others were small so he hadn't realised they were there.

Chemists sell files especially for feet.

I would also like to say thanks about the banana skins. DD had a verruca on her heel that was really hurting her. Pretty much sorted just a week later with no fuss.
