I’ve had a cold for a week, seemed fairly bog standard but the last 3 nights I’ve barely slept because I feel like I’m choking when I nod off. Dh says when I do sleep I’m snoring so loudly, he’s never heard anything like it. Anyway checked my throat this morning and my uvula (dangly thing in throat) is huge and red. It feels like I have a golf ball in my throat. I have no experience of this sort of thing but should I be getting it seen to or is it par for the course of colds? Is the rest of the throat/tonsils swollen? I never look in my throat so I’m finding it hard to tell. It seems to be getting worse, while the rest of the cold symptoms are easing up.

Looks like tonsillitis if they are white spots on tonsils.

Havanawinter · 17/12/2022 21:03

Thank you. Is it something I should be getting looked at or will it run it’s course? I have zero experience of throat problems

From the picture here I would say the rest of it looks fine - can't see any white puss or red swollen tonsils. It's looks to be just the uvula - (could be wrong, I'm just going from that picture) which I've never experienced before. Do you have a fever? Are pain meds helping? Are your glands up in your neck?
May be worth seeing a gp Monday if it carries on. Unless you experience extreme difficulties in breathing etc in the mean time then get checked sooner x

I read that differently.

Sorry.

Sorry.

Me too lol

giftswap2021 · 17/12/2022 23:19

If there's just one white spot it might be a tonsil stone? They can give the feeling of something stuck in the throat.

I usually get a torch to look there, and a lollipop stick/end of toothbrush, and push gently under where the white spot it and if it's a tonsil stone it will pop out and you can remove it.

Not sure why me too is absolutely gigantic?!

Gingerkittykat · 18/12/2022 00:07

Have you tried to gargle with very hot salted water? That can make a big difference to throat problems.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/12/2022 00:11

Salt water gurgles and Piriton

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/12/2022 00:16

Gargles not gurgles

rainbowlou · 18/12/2022 00:17

Oh gosh I also scrolled slowly down with one eye shut and my thumb hovering over the screen..sorry.

I hope you feel better op

SingingSands · 18/12/2022 00:51

Gargle with warm (not hot!) every few hours and take some paracetamol or ibuprofen. It doesn't look like tonsillitis, but it definitely looks sore! Sore throats are rubbish aren't they?

Oh no. I'm a good person. I didn't click. Then a few minutes later went "UUUUUUvula" and clicked.

You're all weirdos.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 18/12/2022 04:54

Gargle with warm water & soluble Asprin . I also thought it could be a tonsil stone. Try & hook it out with a wet cotton bud . Hope you feel better soon 💐

Nicetoseeyou1980 · 18/12/2022 07:24

I have the same thing and it is called Uvulitis, can be caused by strep so get it checked out.
I have antibiotics as have a high temp and honestly it's bloody painful.

Havanawinter · 18/12/2022 16:19

sorry all who raised an eyebrow to the title!

I don’t have a temp at all, I feel fine in myself now bar a slight sniffle but the throat is still agony and looks the same today as it did yesterday. If no better in the morning I will try to beg borrow or steal a GP apt.

DireBetes · 18/12/2022 16:22

I’ve had this for nearly two weeks - following a cold from hell, no temperature.

It’s slowly getting better. I avoided the GP as I’d only just finished the antibiotics from the previous illness.

Mistonthemountains · 18/12/2022 16:23

I read it differently too so no idea why I then clicked on it 🤣
