Anyone have experience of a blocked tear duct in a newborn?

Hi all. 3 day old DD was born with a swelling under her left eye which I have been told is a blocked tear duct. Pediatrician basically said it is nothing to worry about, will go away, and just to watch out for infection, and massage it to help it reduce. However, as I was still in post-birth exhaustion/confusion I couldn't really take much in/ask questions, so am posting here in the hopes that someone else has experience to share. Really should have asked how long it will take to go down, is there need for follow up, is it an issue that it seems to be displacing her nose a little?

Can anyone help?

DS2 had this in both eyes - Took about 8-10 weeks to fully clear - used to massage gently in the area with a finger whilst feeding to make sure i didn't forget to do it reguarly - he also needed eyedrops a couple of times as they went gunky - has';t had any long term effects at all. Hope this helps.

Thanks - glad to hear it is fairly common.
