I haven't worn My retainers in 2 years I have 2 pairs one pair I got when I first had my braces removed and I got the other pair about a year later after I lost My first pair (I found them again after) first pair of retainers won't go over My teeth or won't stay in place but the 2nd pair although very tight (as my bottom teeth seem to have moved) seem to fit, and are staying in place, (I couldn't close My mouth when I tried on my very first pair as they'd come straight off) I know do expect discomfort over the next few days but does anyone know if its OK? Cant afford another pair or to see a dentist

Please don’t.

I stuck an old (not fixed) brace back in a couple of years after taking it out. The tooth it was specifically made to move had obviously shifted back a little. It was tight and ended up really painful.

I ended up having to have root canal treatment on that tooth, RCT failed so the tooth had to be removed. It’s my front tooth!

@WednesdayFridayAddams I took them out but did any more of your teeth move since then?

@Spockrates yes you can use the 2nd set as an aligner- wear them full time apart from eating for a couple of weeks then back to whatever the routine was when you finished your orthodontics- usually nighttime wear for 3-6 months then at an interval that they fit without being too tight long term.
