Talk To Me About Fibromyalgia

I haven’t been diagnosed as the doctors are still investigating & trying to rule things out but fibromyalgia has popped up more than once as a possibility. If you have it, did it take long to diagnose & how does it manifest itself for you? What medication if any is prescribed?

Dd has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. No medication given, no treatment. I’m not sure she has it, she’s not sure she has it…..seems like when they got bored of trying to actually diagnose her they gave her this label.

anyway the diagnosis has been a millstone round her neck which resulted in her nearly dying. Every ache and pain and symptom she sees a doctor with since they just say oh well it’ll be your fibromyalgia. She has been to the gp and a&e numerous times recently with chest pain and they said it’s fibromyalgia and sent her home. Turned out she had multiple blood clots in her lungs.

First mentioned in 2014, but I didn't satisfy the diagnosis criteria. Got diagnosis in 2018 (after criteria had changed slightly). Gabapentin was the only thing specifically prescribed for fibro, but I already take hydroxycholoroquine and naproxen for mixed connective tissue disease.

This is going to be a long response- apologies. My cousin has fibromyalgia. I have heard from.her about this. I was diagnosed with suspected Lupus about 12 years ago. This was after I had a virus and 10 weeks from work. When i felt unwell it was like a mild dose of the flu. I asked consultant if it could possibly be fibromyalgia and they said no as I did not have the classic pressure point pains. Had Amitriptyline, the Pregabalin, later Gabapentin. The latter were awful. Anyway, had Pregabalin for a few years to manage pain.
Paid for acupuncture too as sleep was crap. Came off these eventually. Had about 3 years where was ok,operating on 80%. The last few years I have not felt well, shoulders, neck pain,if I knock any part of my body, even slightly, I react like a baby feels like internally someone has pulled sinews in my arms. ,Face and legs burn- but a cold burning. Hands hurt too. Having a lot more stomach issues too. No.medication as yet as doctors only decided recently that I probably have fibromyalgia. When you look it up it says widespread body pain. Going through menopause too. It hard to accept when you have any illness. Take each day at a time. Be kind to yourself.
