cholestasis of pregnancy?

My stomach has been very itchy for 4 days. Throughout the past 2 days it seems to have also spread to my face, legs, arms, scalp etc. Not constant but it's there enough to notice.

Could this be a general pregnancy thing or ICP? My sister had ICP but it was specifically on her hands and feet.

Thanks

I had OC when I was pregnant with my first. I think your stomach is quite often itchy when pregnant but maybe the other parts less so. Worth getting it checked out at maternity triage - it’s just a blood test 🙂

My OC started on my stomach! Then went to feet, hands etc. You need a non fasting blood test done. Get this arranged with your midwife.

@Primrose413 @PinkButtercups thanks both. I went in this morning for the nurse to take my blood. She said results should be back today or tomorrow (so tomorrow now).

The itching has weirdly died down so much since! Did you find this that it would come and go or was it constant ? It hasn't yet come on tonight compared to the last 4 nights.

I had obstetric cholestasis with one of my pregnancies. Mine started on my feet and then spread to my legs and hands. It was much worse at night.

I had OC with my second DD. Started around 28weeks stopped the second she was born. The itching was unbearable. It was all over but mainly hands, feet and legs. 15yr a later I’ve still got scars from the constant itching ! My liver is also permanently damaged :/

I hope for your sake it’s not that !

It came and went for me.

My worst itching was when my bile acids were at 22.
I had my babies yesterday at 36w because my bile acids shot up to 122.

Justisme · 04/12/2022 22:11

@PinkButtercups did they induce you?

Justisme · 04/12/2022 22:13

@Bluelightbaby im so sorry? How do you know your liver is permanently damaged?

I had it too (very severe) and curious to see if mine is ok

juna923 · 04/12/2022 22:16

Thanks ladies. Hopefully I hear back tomorrow. I had liver issues when I had my DC 2 years ago I became jaundiced a few weeks after giving birth and no one knew why. Lots of LFTS it took a year to go back to normal range. I never had an explanation why no doctor could figure it out. So a bit worried this time round

@Justisme Because of regular blood tests they show my liver levels are elevated, have been since 2007 when I had my second DD

juna923 · 04/12/2022 22:31

@PinkButtercups congratulations I hope you are all doing well Flowers

Also ladies are bile acids picked up on general LFTS ? I think that's what they done on me this morning just LFT but nothing specific for bile acid ?

@juna923 good luck with the results today. I found sometimes they had returned but midwives didn’t call me so I would usually give them a call.

I believe the bile acid test is different to Liver Functioning Test as they show different issues but focus a little more on the biles if they need to make a call to do a c section
