DD2 has a cough and very heavy cold. Last night after her breast feed she was violently sick. The same thing happened again. She was hungry, but is unable to keep anything down. Suggestions as to what to do next please? She was distraught this evening!

Hi Turkiegirl (are you who I think you are?). Sorry to hear dd2 is ill, not sure what to suggest really. I guess if it goes on for too long then you should take her to the doc's to be on the safe side. Presumably it's the mucus making her sick though.

Turkiegirl · 01/12/2004 21:32

Yes I am who you think I am HD!
I think it is the mucus making her sick, just worried she'll end up dehydrated as she won't drink anything

Will she take water? Even small amounts should stop her being dehydrated. Is her fontanelle sunken in at all? (am I right in thinking that's a sign of dehydration?)

Turkiegirl · 01/12/2004 21:43

won't take water

this any good?

Turkiegirl · 01/12/2004 21:52

according to that I should ring NHS direct or dial 999

Eek! What's your instinct?

hewlettsdaughter · 01/12/2004 21:59

999 sounds a bit drastic

Turkiegirl · 01/12/2004 22:01

she is groaning at the mo. Temo is down tho, she's just grotty so will leave her for now

hi turkiegirl. My dt1 is not keeping anything down at the moment, no temp though. She's also got a heavy cold and I'm thinking it's the mucus. That said milk only makes it worse. Can you spoon water into her in small amounts on a regular basis? How long has she been like this? (not a doctor or a nurse despite my questions)

MarsselectionboxLady · 01/12/2004 22:06

Also, how is she in the day? Is she keeping food down? Is she keeping fluids down in the day?

Turkiegirl · 01/12/2004 22:09

she spits water out again. She has been unwell since Monday

Turkiegirl - how is dd2 today?

Turkiegirl · 02/12/2004 21:39

I didn't give her anything solid at tea time, just a bf instead. Also didn't offer the other side at bedtime. She has been sleeping but is grizzling at the mo.

she also had an explosive nappy earlier today, full of mucus and yuck!

Better out than in, I suppose. Hope she gets better soon! (how are you?)

Turkiegirl · 02/12/2004 22:21

I'm fine, tired with being up and down all night! Have worked all day today too, then went shopping for new outfit for meet up tomorrow night!

DD2 is much better today, still full of snot, but I didn't give her any solids at tea time so she didn't bring it all back! Will wait til she's less snotty before reintroducing solids again!

Hurray!
