To not treat a Meniscus Tear

Hi all,

Has anyone chosen to not treat a meniscus tear? If so, is your pain intermittent or constant? If it is intermittent, how long do you feel pain free before it returns?

I have been diagnosed via an MRI with a medial meniscal tear (it’s likely a very long standing small tear that worsened recently with a tennis accident). The strong pain that have been feeling for about 2 weeks has now almost completely resolved. I still feel like the knee is affected (I can’t do a quad stretch or squat on it comfortably) but I feel the same now as I did when I had the small tear, so I could run, ski, snowboard, kneel, play tennis… is it possible to have a full meniscal tear and get on with those things even if you don’t have surgery or is life with an untreated meniscal tear inevitably limited physically?

The doc says it is okay to not treat but strongly recommends surgery for the sake of reliving symptoms and thus improving quality of life but now I don’t feel many symptoms so am confused whether to go ahead.

Thanks
