What could this be and how can I relieve symptoms?

I started getting a rash last night. At first I thought it was a bite from walking the dogs but then it spread over my entire body. Even though I have a rash covering all my body where it is itching and burning migrates.

Atm my hands and feet feel like they're on fire. Earlier it was my groin and before that the backs of my legs.

I've been sick and feel nauseous and run down. I'm also freezing cold apart from my hands feet which feel like they've been burned.

I've had piriton and paracetamol and I have cetraben.

Does the rash disappear under pressure?

Frequency · 26/11/2022 18:22

Yeah, it does and my neck isn't aching and I don't feel sensitive to light.

I have no idea but see a doctor

I'd consider a&e

SofaLofa2022 · 26/11/2022 18:29

I think I'd be inclined to call 111 anyway. Wishing you better soon

Frequency · 26/11/2022 18:31

I really don't feel ill enough for A&E. I might try 111 if it gets worse or doesn't start getting better soon.

Definitely 111 as a minimum.

Op I know the rash blanches but with this collection of symptoms I'd not want to take chances in your shoes and if you can't speak to someone within an hour I'd probably go to a&e

MammaWeasel · 26/11/2022 18:35

Were you perhaps bitten by a tick?

IAmcuriousyellow · 26/11/2022 18:36

I believe a rash that covers your whole body is a serious thing. You might want to get some advice from 111.

Yes, the vomiting and extremes of temperature are also a concern.

I think sepsis doesn't always present in a typical way or maybe it's a severe allergy (in which case you'll need more than otc anti histamine)...but either way it sounds like the body is really struggling with a major something and I wouldn't take any chances.

Urgh.

I'm supposed to be on night shift tonight and calling in sick involves dragging people out of bed/the pub. I don't think it's sepsis. I have worked in care and seen loads of cases of sepsis. It could be an allergy but I haven't eaten or used anything new.

I will persevere with my cetraben and call 111 if it gets worse.

Hand foot and mouth disease perhaps? There's a lot of that going around

HappyHamsters · 26/11/2022 19:14

What work do you do, I wouldnt be going onto a night shift with an unknown rash and vomiting. You need to get medical attention, you know that.

Network engineer from home. I really just watch monitoring software and call out of hours engineers if needed, nothing strenuous or that exposes me to other people. I can just chill in front of my laptop.

What does the rash look like? As you mention itching/burning I'd be thinking it might be shingles?

Frequency · 26/11/2022 22:10

Red, raised splotches. When that area is burning my skin turns red and the splotches turn white. I am starting to feel marginally better now.

I now just feel like I have really bad sunburn/sunstroke.

It sounds like a viral rash - I got one once years ago and now at the merest hint of illness I'm covered. Usually appears when I start to feel better

Oh no. I hope that's not the case. Illness I can cope with. I don't like being ill and given the choice will retire to bed until I feel well again but this itching/burning was horrendous.

It's pretty much gone now but I have just taken a piriton. Prior to that my hands were still itching and burning but everywhere else was back to normal.
