Thats it really. She's been puking since 10 last night, 4 times through out the night, last bout was 5.30am, obviously nothing left inside her so not nice for her. She is asking for food though, feels so mean not giving her anything.
Would you?

Just been on the phone to v helpful NHS direct nurse about my puking 1yr old - she said better to give food even if it gets puked back up, than to not give it. Whatever they will eat, even if it's jelly and ice cream
Hope better soon.

I would try a tiny bit of something very plain - 1/2 a slice of dry toast or a plain biscuit and a little bit of apple juice or water. If she keeps it down you could let her have small amounts at intervals. Avoid giving her too much at once, even if she says she's still hungry and avoid anything too rich, greasy etc. Cheese and milk are not great after sickness.

BTW, the jelly and ice cream suggestion was in the context of a child who hasn't eaten anything for 3 days i.e. trying to tempt him with a treat just to get him to take something, anything. Agree with SugarM that toast or crackers would be a better option to try first of all!
p.s. she also said that dairy is fine if it's part of their usual diet, not to hold back on it.

Thank you, Sugar and Jacks, I gave her some brown bread with nothing on it about 10am, she was doing well until 4pm and was then sick again. Big brother was sent home from school this afternoon aswell for being sick so looks like we've got a bug rearing it's ugly head. We'll try the little at a time approach and see how it goes. They've both just had a crispbread with a little marmite on.

Jacks I hope your LO gets better soon, it's no fun for them hey!

Thanks, we've just done day 4 of constant puking and DH has now come down with it too.
This is RUBBISH.
How is your DD doing MrsJ?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 02/02/2008 19:27

Oh poor dh and you for dealing with it, not nice.

dd is really on and off! Her big brother got sent home from school on Thursday PM as he'd been sick too. He hasn't been ill again since and dd was sick at 4pm on Thursday and then nothing until last night again. She's been fine all day today again though? Very strange. Keeping my fingers crossed my 8mth dd doesn't come down with it too.

I think the current advice is to feed as at least a little bit will be absorbed. The main thing is to stop them getting dehydrated. Lemonade or somesuch is good as they will get some sugar as well as fluid.

Hope she feels better soon.
