DS1 has (apparently) never been able to breathe out of nose

He is 7.

He informs me and DH this evening that the reason he can't blow his nose (often snotty) is that he can't and never has been able to breathe out his nose. He can breathe up it though.

After a series of experiments it appears he's right. What's going on??? I guess I'll take him to the doctors now.

Does anyone else have any experience of this????

I would guyess that he is having you on.
what kind of "experiments" did you do? could he have been faking? it's easy enough to just not blow out of your nose.
if he can breathe in then surely he can breathe out????
babies automatically breathe through their noses- when he was little did you notice that he always breathed through his mouth>?

it could be his adenoids. i had to have mine removed when i was about 3 for the same reason. my mum told me i was a noisy mouth breather as a child i dont remember much about it being so young at the time though worth getting checked out though

Pinch his nose and ask him to speak. If he sounds different to normal (ie nasal/adenoidal) then he IS breathing out through his nose and just doesn't realise it.
