Reassurance needed - new scary headache

Freaking out. Please help.
I'm no stranger to headaches, I would get them almost daily in the past when my sleep was rubbish etc. I've been healthy and slept well and have only had the odd one this past year, however since Wednesday (6 days ago) I've had a headache. 24/7. It's not even painful. It's like tingling on my head, and like a stack of heavy books are resting on it permanently. Some times i get electric shock like tingles (not really painful) all around. Nose and forehead and around eyes feel numb but they're not.
No nausea no blurred vision.
GP is on Wednesday, couldn't be seen sooner.

Absolutely terrified I have a tumor.
Can headaches ever be like this and last this long without breaks? I'm so scared.

Am 30 with a 5 month old baby, no other health problems.

Are you sure you don't have a migraine?

My
Mum has suffered with headaches and migraines for years! Only prescription drugs can usually help but even then sometimes they don't. My brother and sisters are sometimes the same. Eventually they put my mum on beta blockers which helped for a while.

Try not to worry (easier said than done) but h also find when you think about it it's also not going to go. What medication have you tried?

pambeasly · 21/11/2022 16:10

It's not even painful. Are migraines sometimes not painful? I've never had one.

I've tried paracetamol combined with ibuprofen but they make no difference whatsoever to this constant sensation.

I'm so worried I'm just crying constantly the last two days. I've never had anything like this, from waking up in the morning to falling asleep it's there.

Sounds like it might be either migraine or neuralgia. Migraines aren’t bad headaches - in fact for some people, they rarely involve a headache at all - but clusters of symptoms, including those you describe here. They can be very long lasting and debilitating. I get numbness and tingling round my eye and the corner of my mouth, pain in my neck and/or head, and visual aura.

Please try not to worry. With no vomiting or double vision you don’t fit the typical profile for tumour, so please don’t rush to the worst case scenario. See what the appointment on Wednesday brings.

PinkButtercups · 21/11/2022 16:15

It does sound like a migraine. Try something a bit stronger.

Just breathe and take one day at a time and stop getting upset okay? Not in a horrible way but you aren't helping yourself.

Agree with PP x

pambeasly · 21/11/2022 18:07

Trying so hard to not think about it but it's impossible. Top lip is starting to feel tingly too.

I've never had a migraine, I thought they gave you a bad headache?

Has anyone had this before without a bad headache?

Yes! Lots of times! As I said above, migraine often has no headache at all.

Obviously I am not a doctor and I can’t see you, so I can’t advise you properly, but I will say that getting yourself so upset and in a real state is going to make you feel awful and exacerbate your symptoms.

Justwingingitox · 21/11/2022 20:18

Oh bless you OP.
I'm a chronic migraine sufferer and get the pain with mine. Yours does sound like a silent migraine - so basically a migraine without the head pain. As PP has said, you can get the other symptoms you are describing without the head pain.
I've just got over an 9 day migraine, non stop with pain. With or without pain it can be extremely exhausting!
Please don't panic, you're very much like me in the sense that I often think the worst of every shite situation. The more you work yourself up, stress and over think your symptoms, the worse it can get.
You may find it might disappear before Wednesday too.
No nausea and no double vision are good signs.
Rest as and when you can - not easy with a bubba.. but just try to chill a bit. X

seperatedmum · 21/11/2022 20:22

I'm not trying to play top trumps but I've had literally half my face numb with migraine so I know im on the pillow I just can't feel it- I hope it's "just" migraine for you too although it's awful x

Numbness spread to limbs today. Having scan tomorrow to be safe but Dr thinks could be stress. Do you think I'll be ok??

I suffer occasionally from numbness and lose use of limbs usually on one side during a chronic migraine attack, they're called hemiplegic migraines. So it can be completely normal.
Reassuring you have a scan.. so positive thoughts! And yes, could certainly well be stress x

pambeasly · 22/11/2022 19:49

@Justwingingitox thanks for replying. Does your numbness last for days? I've been numb on the face 24/7 since Sunday eve.
This head pain is getting worse too.

Numbness can be stress, or migraine. You will have to be checked out, but it is not automatically something bad.

Have you been stressed recently?

It is my understanding that the symptoms of stroke and migraine can be incredibly similar to the untrained eye.

This head pain is getting worse too.

I've experienced it up to 2 days max. Hemiplegic migraines are fairly new to me. Since the birth of my youngest FS nearly 3 years ago. But never suffered with chronic migraines for 15 years.
Can you manage the pain at all? What did the DR say RE the pain?

Justwingingitox · 22/11/2022 20:09

But have suffered sorry**
Really need to check my message before I hit post!!!

pambeasly · 22/11/2022 20:17

The headache has been 6 days, numbness two. He didn't talk about pain management just phoned the hospital to get me in for a scan tomorrow.
My head pain is getting worse. I'm taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. It's there on waking and just constantly - never 5 mins without it. Is this similar to any of you? So so anxious

OP posts:
Justwingingitox · 22/11/2022 20:23

Is your head pain getting worse as the minutes go on? Have you got tingling anywhere?
I don't want to say wait until tomorrow if you're really struggling, because you're only having a scan. They won't be able to advise on much else.. so, do you think 111 is worth a call?
Migraines and strokes as PP said are very similiar and I've been in a&e several times as its been hard to distinguish what one it is during a bad attack. Thankfully never the latter. But as you've never experienced this before and not a regular sufferer.. I'd consider ringing.

seperatedmum · 24/11/2022 08:57

for some examples- I've had numbness down my left arm which the doctor showed me was from tight muscles in my shoulder related to migraine, I've also had a migraine for a week a different doctor said "yes you can have them for a week" 🫠 a different time I was seeing half of my daughter's face distorted before the pain started no "emergency" help was offered. I hope you get some help OP

pambeasly · 24/11/2022 10:39

I had bloods and a chest X-ray yesterday, awaiting CT scan. The head feeling is a constant one, as is the numb face. Day 8 now. Hard not to think the worst. The only thing that's getting me by is hearing how other people have had similar and been ok, but can't seem to find anyone who's had numbness constantly like this.

Thanks for your comments
