WHY am I not having any pain? Anyone an expert on the female cycle? Very personal and I'm a bit embarrassed but I have nobody else to ask.

I don't know why I didn't want to put the word 'period' into the thread title.

Anyway. I always used to have horribly painful periods. I had to go to bed for 2 days! Also used to get diahoea (sp?) and I used to vomit and have a temperature and hot flushes.

I haven't really had periods for about 7 years. After ds2 was born I estimate I've only had about 3 (I'm not complaining!)

But 2 weeks ago I had a tiny one-day one.

And last night I thought I'd wet myself in the night but when I turned on the light it was like someone had been MURDERED! and all day I've been gushing and passing huge clots, the size of the palm of your hand.

Now I bet that is because I've not really had much of anything and my system is clearing itself out? But when I cough or bend or anything, it squirts out like a wee.

But the other thing is - it doesn't hurt. Not a bit. That's why it feels like weeing myself. Not the tiniest cramp. It's so odd!

I cannot go to my elderly male gp, I could never ask him to explain stuff like this to me (I am avoiding him about the smear atm too!)

but is this common? Am I right that it is probably because it is so long since I had a period? But why no pain, diahoea or vomiting, like normal?

you need to go, this is not normal. if it was coming out of your ear like that you would go, wouldn't you?

please make an appt; ask to see a female.

arfishy · 30/01/2008 11:49

God, I don't know hecate, but pain, diarrhoea and vomiting isn't that normal either. I think it's a symptom of endometriosis isn't it?

You definitely need to see somebody, just for the blood loss/iron deficiency alone.

Hope you're ok, sounds horrendous.

noddyholder · 30/01/2008 11:53

please go to the doctors or even a&e if you can bear it

Twiglett · 30/01/2008 11:54

OK Just because you've had normal cramping before a pregnancy it doesn't mean that you will continue to have cramping after a pregnancy. basically when pregnant your hormones get thrown up in the air and they come down any which way so what you've experienced in the past about normal periods will change when they come back .

BUT THAT SAID .. what you are experiencing is not a normal heavy period .. and you need to see someone .. it could be your hormones are just unbalanced and that even something as simple as the pill can sort it out

there are other reasons and you need to speak to someone to find out what and why and how to sort it out .. you can get anaemic and feel ill from excessive blood loss

loopylou6 · 30/01/2008 12:02

how are u hecate? i hope your at the docs, let us know how u get on

Hecate · 30/01/2008 12:06

No, I'm here. After all your comments and the fact I've had to shove a PILLOWCASE between my legs to soak up the blood!! I've decided I am going to go, I've got myself an appt for this pm.

But it can't be anything bad because there's no pain at all. Like I said, my periods pre kids used to be horrendous - worse than labour pain! but this is totally pain free.

Very glad you are going to docs. Hope the appt goes well.

BettySpaghetti · 30/01/2008 12:13

I agree with what others have said about periods coming back after pregnancy/time on the pill etc completely differently to how they were before. It might just be that you are going to have heavy but painless periods for a while.

However, is there any chance you could be pregnant? Its just that a m/c doesn't necessarily involve pain in the earlier stages despite the loss of lots of blood, clots etc. Sorry to have to ask but it could be a possibility

JustMissyNow · 30/01/2008 12:19

oo er
hope all is well
if any help my period before last was like that ang a month long
it was my 1st after dd2

Isa11 · 30/01/2008 12:33

My periods after having kids have been far heavier, especially the first after many months of breastfeeding. It just went on forever - at least 2 weeks. Nevertheless, if you haven't had periods for seven years and it is just gushing out like that you really do need to go ask what it is.

flamingtoaster · 31/01/2008 08:54

I do hope she is OK - it sounds horrific - a friend of mine had something similar and when she saw the doctor she was taken straight to hospital for a transfusion.

PippiCalzelunghe · 31/01/2008 08:54

I wonder what doctors said hecate. hope you are all right!

Hi neighbour (ish) - hope you're ok..

Hecate · 31/01/2008 09:18

oh. sorry sorry sorry.

Yes, I went. I've now got to go to the hospital for blood tests (I have VERY bad veins and always need the hosp. expertise!!) to check my thyroid ? why that god only knows! or hormone imbalance and then there is the option of a scan but I think he said that would depend what the blood tests show.

He did ask if I could be pregnant. I said that since my husband had the snip years ago and we haven't had sex in that time anyway, if I am, he should phone the Pope!!

It could also just be because I haven't had anything for so long!!!!!

He was actually very annoyed with me about it all, not at all sympathetic. Especially that I have been dodging my smear for about 10 years.

I am supposed to go to the hospital today. I am waiting for dh to come and take me.

I know. I just really have a problem with being examined downstairs.

But anyway, I really don't think it's anything much - if the dr seriously thought there was a problem or I was at risk in any way, he would have sent me to the hospital there and then, wouldn't he? I think he's just covering all bases iyswim.
