Ds had this single spot on his back. Any clue what it is? It's only painful if touched and about size of 5p.

Looks like could be cystic acne, does he have acne/ be prone to it? I'd say to the chemist if it's painful.

Bathe It with salt water frequently, antiseptic cream and cover it with non lint dressing. See the GP of it gets worse. Possibly impetigo?

Ooh right thank you; will take those on board. He doesn't have acne at all - is remarkably acne/spot free all his teen years etc. He does get eczema on & off and had query/undiagnosed shingles in one of the lockdowns.

It was the apparent multi headed nature that stumped me and the fact that it was one only made us wonder if a bite.

Mumsnet seems excellent at skin blemishes!

This, but use boiled water and dip flannel/cotton wool to apply as a hot compress - will bring the pus up.

Looks like a spot/boil. Painful but once they 'pop' should feel much better.

How long has he had it?
Could be fungal or start of shingles

tobee · 04/11/2022 18:25

About 48 hours.

Carbuncle?

tobee · 04/11/2022 21:25

What is a carbuncle exactly?

Crossed my mind too.

A boil with multiple heads
