Can norovirus only last a few hours?

Hi all. As you can guess this'll be a little TMI! So I had some mild nausea last night but didn't think too much of it. I then woke up at 11pm with horrific stomach cramps and my stomach rumbling. Dashed to the bathroom and had explosive diarrhoea. Had an attack of diarrhoea every 15 minutes or so until around 1am when the vomiting began. Vomited every 10 minutes until around 3.30am

It's now almost 6am and I haven't vomited or had diarrhoea since 3:30am. I feel rough, very weak and shaky with painful cramps but no longer nauseous. I suspect I have noro but expected the vomiting ect to last longer? Or can it improve this quickly? DH reckons I have food poisoning but he isn't ill and ate the same food I did.

I'm certainly not complaining!

When I have it (teacher and small children and so have had it quite a few times), that is what happens to me most of the time. I hope you feel better soon, you'll be wiped out today!

I have had that once, it only lasted a few hours - but it was really really severe for those few hours. It still took me a few days to fully get back to eating, even though the V and D had stopped.
Get well soon OP.

etc

Sounds like a bug. Food poisoning is rare and very horrific

Thanks all, feeling very achy and tired and stomach still isn't 100%, but haven't been sick or had diarrhoea since 3:30am, so fingers crossed I'm over the worst of it!

Now I'm worried about DCs (3.5 and 3 months) catching it!

I suspected I had this in the summer. My partner met me for breakfast but he was sick the evening before. I met him on a Wednesday. He met his brother on Thursday. By Thursday evening I began feeling sick with nausea and it's exactly what your described:
Hours of nausea
Hours of diarrhoea
Hours of diarrhoea and vomiting

It was absolutely fucking hideous.

Then my brother in law got sick on the Saturday and went to hospital and it was diagnosed as nono virus. I presume we all had the same thing.

I isolated for a day and half after my nausea started and never passed it on to anyone. My close contacts in work never got sick.
My partner must have been infectious for days. The fact that we all got sick. Another one of his brothers and his family all got sick too.

Awful dose.

Nono virus was a 24 hour thing for me but it was worse than covid because of the loss of dignity with puking and soiling myself. I had to wear pads going to bed. Covid was a walk in the park but annoying.

As soon as the vomiting stopped I was able to drink water and electrolytes and take paracetamol and that all helped me but it was the middle of the night. I found the whole thing was very difficult because I got up for work on Thurs morning and went to work and became ill on Thursday evening and it was very early Friday morning by the time I was able to go to sleep.

Norovirus for me was vomiting and diarrhoea over 3 days feeling like i
could die and feeling very weak afterwards.
