Docs want to discuss blood results

Hi all. Had a full blood count done yesterday along with my smear. Docs rung up today saying doctor wants to discuss my results and only next appt is 04th November. I asked if there were any nearer appts but there weren't. I am going out of my mind with worry, but I guess if it was something serious it would be an urgent appt. Am I right?!

If they really really wanted to discuss it with you, they would have called you, not asked you to book a phone appointment.

MarshaMelrose · 26/10/2022 20:09

I'd think so, yes. Probably they're just advising that you're low in areas so to increase vitamin intake, or watch your glucose intake etc.

PeloFondo · 26/10/2022 20:13

Yeah if it's serious they tell you - I got a phone call in the evening after having bloods done in the day to tell me to go to hospital

On the other hand my vitamin d being low was a letter

Igotjelly · 26/10/2022 20:15

I personally would be insisting on them calling you before then. A dear friend of mine died of cervical cancer recently aged just 24 after being made to wait 8 weeks to discuss her smear results (struggled to get a smear in the first place too but that’s another story).

Yes I'd say if it's urgent you'd probably be seen more quickly. When my BIL had blood tests done and they found he was badly diabetic, the doctor rang him and told him to go straight to A&E. Maybe you're just low on iron or another vitamin and need a prescription? Try not to panic.

TerfQueen · 26/10/2022 20:35

My brother had blood tests at 9am and was in hospital the next morning with kidney failure so yes if it’s urgent they don’t tend to mess around. Try not to worry! It will most likely be something that’s either borderline or possibly a vitamin deficiency, etc. what blood were they exactly just a standard full panel? What did you go to the gp for? x

teezletangler · 26/10/2022 20:39

There isn't really anything in a full blood count that should trigger panic. Why did you have blood taken? I expect your hemoglobin is low!

Thank you for the reassurance x I had a baby boy 4 months ago and been heavy bleeding since he was born, was on iron tablets and still am now. Maybe it's my iron levels dropped again or vitamin deficiency. Thank you xx

For my results I was asked to book a phone call, the GP had referred me on the 2ww as soon as she saw the results but didn’t see any need to panic me further by calling straight away. Chances are you’re low in iron or something minor!

Can you not see your blood results on your NHS app?

Every blood test I have I get a message book a routine appt with a GP. Mine is because I can't hold Vit D, B12 or folate. And my cholesterol is high.

Lula74 · 26/10/2022 22:19

OP I agree with others on here, mine was very low iron when they called me back.

I've just had a look but can't find anything on there. Thank you for the advice though everyone
