MRI for throat lump sensation

Has anyone had one? I feel as though I can constantly feel my one tonsil.

Already had a camera down the throat and ultrasound - both normal. ENT suggested MRI to “close the chapter” as he put it.

I suffer health anxiety so imagining the worst even though doc doesn’t seem concerned.

At last a proactive specialist who doesn't send you packing with the usual " wait and see". An MRI is the normal imaging to do after camera and ultrasound and an ultrasound would have picked major anomalies.
Go for it, close the chapter and the best way to silence health anxiety is to go to the bottom of things instead of letting your mind go wild

@ThirdTimeIsTheCharm That’s pretty much what my partner said. “A doctor probably just following the correct process!”

I suppose we are so used to being fobbed off that an MRI feels like an instant cancer diagnosis in itself.

My daughter had an MRI when she was only a few days old 😞.

It's very loud but adults can have music playing from their headphones.

You can also ask to be sedated if you think you'll need it. You have to be very still. My daughter made the slightest move and the docs gave her more sedative.

Have you worked on your tendency to catastrophize?

Permanent feeling of a lump in your throat is a classic of anxiety.

I've worked my way through practically every physical symptom of anxiety, it's amazing the rubbish our bodies can dream up.

Whathefisgoingon · 26/10/2022 22:55

@AnnaMagnani Yes, had CBT and all sorts.

This isn’t Globus, though I’ve has that before!

It's bad when you can start reeling them off isn't it?

I had years where I'd put one symptom to rest and just grow a new replacement.

GERD?

Whathefisgoingon · 27/10/2022 10:05

Every morning I wake up with thick mucus in the back of my throat. Then through out the day it comes back, and I suspect that is the sensation I feel. Almost like it gets stuck in my tonsil. Gross, I know.

I did tell the ENT I had lots of mucus but they kind of glossed over it.

@AnnaMagnani Yep. How did you get over it? 😅

So it turns out the ultrasound tech couldn’t actually visualise part of my neck, hence the MRI. The lump I can feel is “normal” but as they were asked for a full neck scan and couldn’t visualise the very top my by jaw, due to a shadow from my bone apparently, I need the MRI for a full image.
