Has anyone asked for anti sickness tablets while on antibiotics?

I’ve just been given a two week course of antibiotics that I started yesterday and have been feeling really sick ever since. Is it worth asking the at a pharmacy for anti sickness tablets to take alongside? I don’t want to feel like this for the next two weeks.

I had to have it prescribed by doctor. I couldn’t keep antibiotics down at all.

Thanks if I have no luck at the pharmacy I will ask my GP, I am really struggling not to be sick.

Good luck.
its awful feeling!

I do for certain antibiotics as it just makes it easier to recover when I don't feel nauseous. I'm not sure a pharmacist can give anything over the counter but GP certainly can. Best wishes OP

Is it the antibiotics making you feel unwell? You could request an alternative antibiotic from your GP rather than the one you are taking maybe.

Yes it’s definitely the antibiotics, they only had a choice of three that they could give me as I’ve had repeated infections and it’s become resistant to a lot. They said the ones they have given me are the least horrible. Don’t feel it!

How awful. Treating one thing and making you feel worse in another way. Atleast antibiotics are generally short term so hopefully you don't have too much longer left of them. However, I am almost confident you can take anti nausea tablets whilst on antibiotics. I have taken the two at the same time before. A pharmacist will be able to guide you if it saves you having to go to your GP again. Hopefully that helps and that you feel better ASAP.

Thanks all, the pharmacist said I need to speak to my GP. I’ve got an appointment with the nurse this afternoon anyway so will ask while there.

Definitely the two can be prescribed together, about 10 years ago I had one infection after another, and seemed to be on antibiotics constantly.

I couldn't eat with the nausea / sickness and dropped a stone in about a week, spoke to GP and she prescribed cyclizine and zofran to help get me through it. (Zofran and me are now never again events after 1 dose but that's a different story) the cyclizine allowed me to keep the antibiotic in my system long enough to actually treat the infection as i was losing well over half a course previously so getting the full dose really helps.

Over the years that followed all antibiotic scripts had added cyclizine which made a big difference. 1 course sorting it out instead of 3/4 courses. It was on my notes to add anti sickness.

In better news, over the past 3 years the sickness/ nausea has died down when taking antibiotics to the point I am currently on amoxicillin and doxycycline with no ill effects of anti sickness needed.

Eat a slice of toast to help line the stomach with them, keep sipping fluids, just a sip at a time. It goes in easier for your body to handle.

I think that’s part of the problem with me, I’ve had at least one course of antibiotics every month since June last year and my stomach has just had enough. I’ve been okay with Flucloxacillin and Trimethoprim but the doxycycline made me feel nauseous and the Clarithromycin I’m on now are horrible. I’m glad you don’t feel as bad on your’s now.

Are you taking a PPI to help protect your stomach? I take daily omeprazole for many years now (which is prescribed because of other meds I take to protect it)

Hope your appointment with the nurse went well?
