Has anyone else had a new tooth so late in life?

I got one at 37, my Dentist wondered if he had left a bone or tooth fragment from previous work in my gum so took some xrays.
He was a bit surprised to see a whole tooth waiting to come down! It's fully in now, not causing problems although it is difficult to clean it properly. I was lucky, I had a gap at the back where a molar was removed a while ago, and it has moved down towards that.

I know I am going to need it removing. I had my two upper wisdom teeth out 20 years ago, and the lower right hand one was partially out then. It is really difficult to clean and occasionally I get a sore gum at the back of my mouth because there isn't really room for it. And there isn't room for the brand new left hand one either.

How long did your tooth take to come fully out of the gum?

My Dad had one come out in his early 70s

He taught philosophy, so you'd think he'd have had them earlier...but in his case, wisdom came with retirement and more sensible pastimes...

I think it took quite a while for the tooth to be fully out, I can't really remember but think about a year?

Currently cutting one here at 40. Like you it will need to come out, so have been managing it with salt water washes and really vigorous cleaning. It has been coming through slowly for a couple of year, but has really got going whilst we have been abroad, and as it is apparently going to be a difficult extraction, have waited until we get back to get it sorted. Perhaps now at 40 I am on the bik of becoming wise?!

Anna, It took about 6mths from the first sharp edge coming through to it being fully through...I had a disgusting flap of skin over it, the dentist offered to take it off but I ended up just leaving it, then siddenly it was all through. Good luck

yes cutting one now and I am 39. All other three are fine and still in place. The pain is caused by the flap of gum over the tooth when it comes through-it gets infected.

Thanks for all the experience sharing. Glad to know I'm not alone . My stepsons think I'm some kind of post-pubertal freak and that it's all hilarious .
