Spotting mid cycle and after sex

As the title says I’ve been having a small amount of mid cycle spotting and the same after sex. It’s very minimal, just a slight pink to my cervical mucous or a steak of fresh blood on the toilet paper. I’m off to the see the GP next week but suddenly feeling very anxious about it.

My last smear was three years ago (due one in a few months) which was HPV negative. I had one the year before which was HPV positive but with no cell changes. I managed to clear the HPV in that year clearly and assume it was activated by pregnancy. Around this time it was noted that I had a cervical ectropion but it caused no issues.

Am I right in thinking the spotting could be the cervical ectropion or would that have healed by now? I’ve since had another baby (nearly two years ago) which means it might have come back?

looking for a hand hold really. Thanks.

I had similar and just phoned the surgery and they brought my smear forward. Maybe you could call them and ask the same?

I also have cervical erosion. Smear came back ok so I assume it is that. Good luck and try not to worry too much.

Thanks @LifeOnATrain I’ll ask if they can bring it forward. I’ve heard sometimes the screening place rejects samples if sent too early but I’ll see what they say. Thank you. Trying to be sensible about it and not get ahead of myself with the worrying.

I’ve just had a smear and the nurse told me I had a spot of cervical ectropion and to contact my GP if I had spotting during mid cycle or after sex or pain during sex. She said it’s nothing to worry about and they don’t tend to treat it now unless you get those symptoms.

She said ectropion it can come and go, it’s generally hormone related and can be caused by the pill or other changes in the body. Best to get checked by your GP but don’t panic.

My mum had the same years ago and was treated for spotting and it was a minor procedure.

I had pink tinged paper after sex on two occasions and quite a significant mid cycle bleed. Totally shit myself and went for a private smear and ultrasound which showed....... nothing!

GP put it down to covid a few months prior wreaking havoc on my cycle.

(Absolutely get it checked, though!)
