mad periods after dc3 - anyone else?

since dc3 my periods have been so heavy you could anchor continents on them. This morning for example, I had changed all at 4 am, with max protection, and at 7 am, blood was running down my legs as I changed nappies - sorry for TMI but is this normal?

I had this, turned out to be a small fibroid.
have subsequently gone on the pill which has helped.
