Has anyone experienced this before? Also my resting heart rate is 78 and is usually 72. Can this be cussed by stress? Should I worry?

The throbbing in your neck is your pulse and heart rates don't just stay at the one number , they fluctuate up and down. A rise from 72 to 78 isn't anything to be getting worried about. It's a normal heart rate.

@romdowa okay I see. I am just wondering why it is painful

What is painful, your neck pulse is the artery

Your jugular vein is in your neck, I'd just worry if it stops 😅

Your pulse is supposed to be in your neck, start worrying if it’s not. And stop touching it, it’ll probably stop hurting.
