Hair loss 4 months after giving birth... is this normal?

Hi all

I gave birth to my little one 4 months ago and have suddenly had clumps of hair coming out in my hairbrush and in the bath. I am breast feeding at the moment and am not stressed out or anything.

I have not been washing my hair as often as i used too as i have a demanding baby on my hands! But i dont see that as any reason for my hair to start falling out.

Has anyone else experienced this? My hair is long (goes about half way down my back)and i was thinking maybe it's the luscious hair from the pregnancy coming out?

I kept losing hair up to 18 months after I had dd
My hairdresser told me it was normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day too though

that´s exactly what it is lulabell. Mine started when ds was about 4 months and stopped when he was about 6 months. Thought it would never stop!

It's perfectly normal. You don't lose hair during pregnancy.

lu - i have long hair as well- which i think makes it more obvious! it did start around the 4 mth mark and went on for about 3 months. i got used to finding long red hairs everywhere - even in dd's nappy. it is coming back now though i have a 2nd under layer of baby hair which tends to stick up - not the best when trying for a long sleek look. also - arghhhhhh - it is greyer!!

Don't worry - I lost tons of hair after DD was born, I rember standing in the shower with my hands covered in hair which had fallen out whilst I was washing it. With DS it has been less noticible but going on for longer.

At around 5 months the hair loss will slow down - and then at 6 months you will have a wierd fuzzy undergrowth - very bizarre!

ds2 is 4 months and mine is falling out too, though not in clumps. ds2 has started grabbing and pulling it and ds1 still sucks it ifhe can, so that doesn't help. I nearly had it cut off this week, but have decided to weather the storm (and start wearing it up).

i had my baby 4 and half months ago. hair all over the place now!! went to tie up my hair...which is the norm these days(no time for straighteners!!) and I found my hair really receeded. It is also bit sore on temples?? anyone experience this too?? feel bit better knowing others have experienced hair loss too. How come I never got told this?? People are quick to tell you other horror stories!!
