they can cause bleeding after sex yes? so what would happen if u know u have one, but it doesnt normally cause bleeding and u have a history of regular normal smears, but sometimes have a slight spot after sex? Can erosions be "disturbed"? could condoms irritate them?

I'm back.

She had a look up there using one of those metal thingies like when you have a smear. She also took a swab in case the extra bleeding was due to an infection - she's getting back to me with the results.

I've to go back in two months if it happens again and she'll look into doing something (or possibly nothing - see later).

She said my Cervical erosion wasn't too bad at the moment and could be left if i can cope with smaller bleeds in between periods and sometimes after sex. The burning / freezing was a big thing to undergo.

However - the very top of my cervix where it goes up to the womb has 'opened out' a little bit revealing softer tissue - that's what she thinks is causing the bleeding. She drew me a piccy - imagine it should look like a v with a line up the middle (the top of my cervix this is) - well it looks more like a w (lovely!). This can be treated by putting a sort of artificial skin over but she didn't think it was necessary at the mo hence the two more months thing.

She didn't take a smear as i had an all clear last Jan 2007. My grandma had a hysterectamy following womb cancer and my mum had one after finding pre cancerous cells so i'm certainly taking no chances!

Thanks for asking everyone. It's always worth getting these things checked out i think.

And yes - mumsnet is great !

Loopy - good news for you on the bleeding front.

Do you think you'll go to the docs?

loopylou6 · 25/01/2008 14:45

hi joss, yep it is good news, but will go the docs if it happens again sounds like good news for u aswell

That's what i thought too. Oh well - so long as there's no infection it's not too bad.

loopylou6 · 25/01/2008 16:02

yep joss, a good outcome for all i would say and dont worry ive stopped thinking of your bits now

Hi. I've got an errosion too. Well, actually I had it frozen 3 weeks ago. I had bled through my last pregnancy as well as having spotting in my first two pregnancies as well. Since I had a coil put in in May last year, I have spotted continuously. I was referred and she put me on the mini pill as ewll as the coil to counter act any chance that it was the mirena coil that was causing it. It calmed down a fair but but not totally. Having said that, since having the procedure, it has been like having a medium- heavy period for 3 weeks. Really hoping that this stops soon and that this is the end of the errosion. Its put me off having sex for the last year for fear of the bleeding. Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

JossStick · 25/01/2008 16:22

Cad - that sounds like a nightmare.

JSo · 25/01/2008 17:37

Loopylou...glad there was no bleeding
Josstick..glad it was good news for you too..does sound though that she was actually describing your erosion rather than soemthing else...now I can stop thinking of everybodies bits

Another question for the pot though on when the bleeding occurs after sex with a cervical erosion...I mean in the cycle...has anybody made a link to the time of the month yet??? To make it clearer I think I generally bleed after sex if it is after I have ovulated say in the 10 days before my period is due again. what about you ladies has anybody else got a specific time in the month after sex wehn they bleed???

Great mn for this type of thing

JossStick · 25/01/2008 17:44

It's so rare at the mo i couldn't be that detailed .

loopylou6 · 25/01/2008 17:48

hi jso unfortuantly i cant help with that question coz i never know when im gonna have a period as im on the mini pill cerazette, ive not had a period for well over 6 months but i do think u might be on to something there because i have read that the cells on the cervix are very sensitive and fill with blood easily
