I forgot to order my prescription of amitriptyline before we came away on holiday. I'm on 50mg daily and only have 20mg left as I thought I had an extra couple of strips but I don't. I get home on Friday but it's unlikely I'll be able to get any before Tuesday now.. it usually takes days to get the prescription to the chemist.

I'm a bit concerned about the side effects of running out abruptly as I've read the withdrawals can be pretty unpleasant.

Will I be OK?

I'd make an email prescription request and ask for it to be sent electronically to a pharmacy near where you are staying (if in England)

If you are in the U.K. and take your prescription box to the nearest pharmacy and explain they may be able to issue you with an emergency supply. Failing that ring 111 and they can send a prescription through to the nearest pharmacy.

Thank you both, I wasn't aware that I could do either. I'll get onto that as soon as the doctors opens.

It all changed a while ago with my doctors as they have the patient contact the pharmacy for their repeat prescriptions and the pharmacy sends the request to the GP who then sends it to said pharmacy. Hopefully they'll be able to make an exception.

If you phone 111 they will send your prescription to a local pharmacy for you to collect a short supply.

My mum had to do it when we were 300 miles away on holiday and she forgot her medication.

Ring your surgery as the receptionist will be able to give you enough to see you through, I've done this a couple of times.
