days of sudden onset heartburn

rainbowsandstarshine · 04/09/2022 16:55

I woke up on Friday with really bad heartburn, I have only previously suffered this during pregnancy. I took gaviscon which didn't help and I have managed to get some omeprazole. I have had no relief and I am so uncomfortable and burping loads. Struggling to sleep as lying down is so painful. Any advice? And why has their come on out of the blue?

No life is no more stressful than usual and no changes in diet.

Could be oesophagitis (inflammation of the oesophagus). If it’s not gone after a few days of Omeprazole ring the GP. Oh and you can take Omeprazole twice a day.

I'd take gaviscon advance as well as omeprazole. If no better then ask GP for OGD for further investigation. Hope you get sorted, it's horrible isn't it!

I will get some gaviscon advanced tomorrow. Does anyone know how quickly the omeprazole is meant to work? Dreading tonight as lying down makes it so much worse and I find it so hard to sleep propped up. It certainly is horrible.
