Risk of ovarian cancer?

i have had ongoing sharp pains in the right ovary area probably since about Easter time. They come and go- sometimes a few times a day, sometimes only one pain a week. It’s not debilitating at all- it’s like a shooting/sharp/stabby pain that takes my breath away but then disappears as soon as it appears. I’ve always presumed it would be something like harmless cysts as I’m on the coil which can cause cysts.

anyway, more recently I’ve been having ongoing bloating. It’s after food and its like I’m full of air. It’s really uncomfortable more than painful. Tummy is gurgling and I have a lot of wind. I have ibs and it’s different to my ibs- my ibs follows a pattern and always involves pain which is usually linked to stress and doesn’t plague me as much anymore. I’ve also lost weight without trying (down to 8 stone 9 which I can’t remember ever being from about 9 stone 3). I’m eating as normal I think. I feel very full after eating but I think I’m eating regular sized portions. Tummy can look bloated after food but then looks fine at other times. It is not rock hard to press on when it’s bloated.

i am awaiting brca1 genetic test results as my sister is positive for the gene mutation as was my mum. Sister has breast cancer.

i am going to the dr next week to discuss but would be interested to hear opinions on whether this is possibly something to be concerned about and also to ask anyone who has had/has ovarian cancer what your early symptoms were.

thank you

Oh to add- I had been feeling very tired a few months ago and asked for a blood test. They checked my bloods in case of anaemia or thyroid issues and all was fine

Hi OP. I have OC. I initially had no symptoms, then appeared to pick up a tummy bug which left me with loose bowels for a few weeks and after that the bloating appeared. It was persistent, it was there daily, usually slightly less obvious in the morning but always there. I am quite slim and it was noticeable even if not huge. It was really odd as I would jiggle my tummy and it reacted like if you jiggled custards, very wobbly not like the fat I usually have, presumably as it was liquid!

The bloating was not accompanied by any wind, it felt much more like pregnancy, that feeling of liquid under your ribs. I had no pain whatsoever. I was very tired but I was also quite anaemic, and looking back I wasn’t eating as much but hadn’t noticed. I had lost weight but the weight I lost was disguised by the fluid I gained. I have low grade OC, which isn’t usually involved with the BRCA gene so I have not been tested. Low grade is more prevalent in younger patients than high grade.

Good luck with your doctor.
