Hi all, anyone had a private abdominal hysterectomy in England (I’m Midlands) and be willing to divulge what you paid? Just been told I’m not getting my op this year after all, and I’ve already been waiting a while… Wondering if it’s worth me finding ou mt private cost. Fear it’ll just be way out of reach tho, and a little worried about safety if anything goes wrong… Any info gratefully received!

I have every sympathy for you OP. Can you be more of a squeaky wheel to get yourself seen more urgently? You don’t feel safe, you are living in fear of collapsing and needing transfusions again - that’s a dreadful way to live and a powerful weapon in your arsenal surely.

I finally just had my huge fibroid and womb taken out, been on list since July 2021. I googled prices in desperation too! I got a cancellation, I hope you get a call soon if you've been waiting a while 🤞🏼

My GP has written and asked for me to be put on the cancellation list, good to hear it works! Glad you're all sorted, it must be such a relief. I just want rid of the lot now...

@Traceyfudge77 I have tried, and I think I am out of options. GP has written twice. Patient liaison spoke to the lovely secretary but was just told to get GP to write. The lovely secretary is very sweet and polite but has stopped ringing me back so I think I have been too much nuisance lol. Short of taking a camping chair and a thermos and parking myself outside the consultant's office, I don't think there's much left I can do except wait.

@Lula74 ahh that sounds very sensible!

@Janjingles Ooh, I wonder if the rare blood is a connection. I'm rare-ish, not very rare I don't think. But yes, it is terrifying because you don't know when it might suddenly go crazy heavy. I have a rucksack of meds and supplies that goes everywhere with me and I try to stay within a radius of the hospital, so no long trips. Can't wait to be better!

@Lula74 Same here,I have half of Boots Savers in my bag but there’s no way I would be able to go anywhere of any distance. Oh and B negative is the blood group..but I’m trying very hard to B positive atm (Sorry couldn’t resist that) x

I'm B neg too! Now I'm wondering how many of us there are... Is it very rare?

I was able to get my hysterectomy after the consultant decided I was clinically urgent and I agreed to go to a hospital further away, rather than the local one I was under.
The hospital I was under also has a private wing so there are no issues about needing blood or ICU bed if necessary.
Are either of these options possible?

Janjingles · 13/10/2022 10:10

@Lula74 Really !! That’s interesting, Yes it’s quite rare, When I had my kids the midwife mentioned that it was rare, i haemorrhaged then too after giving birth.Maybe we bleed a lot..

Lula74 · 13/10/2022 10:11

@SherwoodForest I don't know, I'm afraid. I can't speak to the consultant. GP has written twice, patient liaison have intervened, I have spoken to secretary four or five times and she's stopped ringing back, bookings can't help. There's no one I can ask.
