CA125 Bloods High ? Cancer?

summersolstice43 · 30/08/2022 14:22

I had routine bloods taken as I'd been feeling unwell for a few weeks. They came back with a CA125 of 50, GP referred me to Gynae on a 2 week wait for more tests due to it being a sign of ovarian cancer. I had my appointment where they did scans and took biopsies and more bloods. The scan showed nothing worrying but my bloods have come back with a CA125 of 100 and a request to have them done again along with a pelvic MRI scan. Previous scan showed a cyst on one ovary and fibroids in my womb, the biopsy was taken from the wall of my womb and I had a full internal examination also.

I'm now really worried as to what this could be if it is not ovarian cancer and also nothing to do with the cyst or fibroids? Has anyone had this happen to them or a high CA125 when its not been cancer?

Yes, I had a reading about that level and it was endometriosis

A 'chocolate' cyst (a cyst with endometriosis) would produce that sort of level too. Adenomyosis can also cause a rise.

(I remember being told at the time that a rise to 100-ish is very likely to be something other than cancer, as levels with cancer can be up at about 1000. Which was hugely reassuring, but I don't know how reliable it is)

@Ethelswith Thank you. Thats put my mind at rest a bit. I do have a cyst on my ovary but the sonographer said it was likely due to my menstrual cycle and it would go by itself.

I'm hoping the MRI scan find the exact cause and it can be treat and it not life threatening. I've been so worried and read so many articles but they all contradict each other.

I researched this a LOT before my diagnosis (unfortunately mine did turn out to be OC, but my level was 420). Endometriosis and adenomyosis seem to be very common benign causes of CA125. If your scan showed nothing concerning that is a good sign. Hopefully the MRI will pick up the cause for you. 😊

I had a friend who had a level around 100, it turned out to be thyroid cancer which was removed and she's fine now, it took ages for the level to return to normal and the GP was convinced it was unrelated

How are you getting on ?
My ca125 is sadly raised.. hence finding this thread

summersolstice43 · 28/06/2023 09:19

@worldwidetravel2017 Hi, thanks for asking. So it wasn't cancer but I do have Adenomyosis, endometriosis, scarring, cysts and fibroids. The Adenomyosis has grown through my uterus to my bowel and has stuck those together so I'm currently on the waiting list for a hysterectomy and have been having a monthly Zoladex injection to bring on the menopause so its all going on really. I'm so glad it wasnt cancer. I hope you dont have anything serious

Hi summersolstice!

I was following this thread as I currently have raised ca125. It usually hangs around 50 but rises to 90 during my period. I have had x2 ultrasounds and CT scan, which like you showed a functional cyst likely a result of menstrual cycle.

im glad you got to the bottom of your raised levels and found nothing tooscary! I have been questioning whether I might also have some endo. Can I ask if your ultrasound scans ever showed any evidence of endo or adenomyosis? Thanks!

worldwidetravel2017 · 14/08/2023 18:04

Someone told me endo doesnt often / always show on ultrascans

I had ultra scans

Mines 50 something now

I do have a fibroid

Hi,
did you have an endometrioma at the time of blood test? Or was it just general endometriosis that caused your increase ?

Another one here recently found to have raised CA125. Itwas 65 then 69.
Ultrasound showing nothing and a CT scan which was done for something else also shows nothing.
GP has referred me to gynae as routine rather than 2ww because the scan shows nothing untoward. I am post menopause.

Hi !
sorry you are also going through this. This blood test can cause a lot of anxiety! Did your scans show anything at all like adenomyosis, cysts or endometriosis? Hopefully you get some answers soon

JustHere123 · 25/04/2024 20:44

Mine too are raised. 71. I have bloated tummy, blood spotting and pain. Dreading the scan results 😫

Leggydisplay1 · 27/12/2024 18:24

Apologies I have just found this thread. My cancer antigen test came back high at 49 in November And a scan found nothing. Another test was done today awaiting results. Has anyone had this and it wasn’t cancer as it has worried me

Leggydisplay1 · 29/12/2024 21:20

Anybody?
