terrible , stabbing pain on the side of my right knee if I kneel down. Does not look swollen or abnormal in any way.. but feels like i have knelt on something extremely sharp. Pain subsides a bit when I am sitting or standing, but did hurt a bit last night. Almost a burning pain actually....

any thoughts, will try and get to the doctors the end of the week if it does not improve?

shall I take anything? use a wheat bag?

my sis had extreme pain on kneeling. eventually her knee kind of locked and she went to docs. she had a worn cartilage in her knee which was fixed with a quick day surgery op. but yours is probably something much less scary sounding!

lulumama · 21/01/2008 18:34

eeeeeeeeeeeekk! not sure i wanted to hear that. I am sure it is something less , erm, serious !

will go to the docs if it has not settled with ibuprofen by friday

think that was from kneeling down to scrub floors, no chance of it being that !!

I think it's otherwise known as 'housemaid's knee'

I get this. I've had it for years. But it's not every single time I kneel down. But it does feel like I've knelt on a bit of glass.

I've asked at least 2 GPs about it but they didn't diagnose and didn't seem to have much idea what the problem could be. Given that I did a lot of sport as a child through to my 20s I've always thought it was a cartilage problem.

If you see your GP and hear something useful, please post back!

thank norks, i was not really sporty, so cannot blame it on that..will let you know what hte quack says!

I have it too. Its sounds like housemaids knee which is medically called Bursitus. I have had a cortisone injection under m kneecap but it flares up again f I stad too long and in the winter. Ibprofen gel works well. I got it through running and cycling so now I power walk with a knee strap on and keep the leg raised and mobile after the exercise.

I cant kneel on it as it sets it off again, thats is my excuse for the state of the kitchen floor. And when certain 'favours' are called upon in the bedroom I have a get out clause!!!

Me too. It has been really sore the past few days, but is a bit better today. Might try a kneestrap for excercising, as I have been avoiding the gym.

Prefered the term Maiden's Knee to Housemaid's Knee. Can't be linked to too much housework though.

I put on a bit of weight recently (bloody pill!), do you think that might have made it worse?

Lulumama · 23/01/2008 18:55

it has settled down a bit ! still sore, but not as mad, will go to docs next week if it continues

thank you

Lulumama, did you go to the docs?

The reason I ask is that I get this too. Mine is agony when I kneel down but doesn't hurt at any other time. Feels a bit like there's fluid there, but isn't swollen or anything.

Very strange - I've just been noodling about on MN for an hour, then decided to Google my knee symptoms. The third result on Google was this thread. Should have looked on MN first, shouldn't I?

camillathechicken · 18/03/2008 21:24

oooh, my knee is famous!

i didn't go in the end as the pain disappeared spontaneously. am slightly concerned about my joins in general as i keep getting pains in my elbows too, so am going to book in for an all round checking over. was thinking about something to take like glucosamine.. local pharmacy is fantastic, and good at recommending stuff for aches and niggles....

hope yours is feeling better soon too
