Is it normal for my ankle to start throbbing a couple or weeks after a sprain?

It's been throbbing a fair bit the last couple if days but really painful at times today.

Still swollen around the ankle bone but not as bad as before.

Can weight bear ok but coming down stairs is painful.

Just wondering if this is normal or not as never sprained my ankle before but this throbbing is worse than the sprain itself.

Not sure on the throbbing but my daughter sprained hers badly in February and there is still swelling now. Been told it can take a year

Sprains can take months to heal. In my (extensive) experience of strained ankles, at least a couple of months, and possibly 9 months or more.

A true sprain takes ages to heal properly, mine was over a year.

I sprained my ankle. It was 6 weeks before I wasn't hobbling and 6 months before it was normal. It's very early days for you.
