Cervical treatment not worked. Anyone with experience?

I was treated about six years ago for severe abnormal cells and then had smears every six months. I had another abnormal smear last year and again severe was treated. I just found out today the treatment didn't work and I need another appointment. The nurse told me on the phone that the cells were being persistent? I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this?

Hi

I dont have experience of persistent abnormal cells but my Mum did several years
back. She (like you) had to have 6 monthly smears and that went on for quite a few years. She had cautery the first time and then a few years later had a cone biopsy and laser treatment under GA. This was completely successful.

the cone biopsy takes a sample of the tissue for them to analyse properly, much more accurate than the smears etc. they can tell from this if you have anything which might lead to something serious, or if your cervix is a bit temeperamental lol! I believe they can also remove any areas of concern at the same time. In my mums case, as I said she had laser treatment at the same time and has never had a bad smear since.

Good luck!

Thanks belle. That is very reasurring. The nurse said that they would probably want to do a biopsy.

Hi

My sister had the same experience as belle's mum, she had the biopsy and laser treatment and has also been in the all clear since (two years ago). A friend of my sisters has been through the same experience too and has also been clear since the laser treatment and that was about 6 years ago.

Hope all goes well for you now!

Hi Xena. I had treatment for abnormal cells three years ago (LLETZ) and have regular check ups now. It may be worth looking at the 'Jo's Trust' website which may be of use and may give you an idea of the sort of questions to ask when you have your appointment (I'd advise writing them down in case you forget to ask). There is a Jo's Trust forum for women affected by CIN or cervical cancer.

Thanks majormoo I had a look at jo's trust and posted a question. If i'm honest i'm terrified. I thought it was bad enough when I got it the second time, but now it feels like I never will get rid of it
