So , iv had this bump for like 10 year since iv been 14 , iv had many dental appointments inbetween and never had a diagnosis , now I'm scared it's cancer or something . Last month I had a abscess right above the lump but had that treated now it's gone , neither of the dentist has said anything to me about it ?? Just touched it that's it don't seem bothered . Now I'm nagging myself because I don't no what it is ! Feels like a pearl sort of thing , had X-rays etc , can anyone please put my mind at rest ?? It's always been the same size , no issues at all

Minor salivary gland?

Hoppinggreen · 15/08/2022 16:52

I have one.
Sometimes it gets a bit “juicy” and I pop it with my tongue or a cotton bud soaked in anti bac mouth wash. Last time I saw the dentist I can’t remember what he called it but he said that it was because a tooth root had died and it was infection coming through - which was a good thing as it was coming out via the gum and not causing an issue with the tooth.
He said to leave it as long as it doesn’t bother me (it hasn’t for 4 or 5 years) but one day I might need a root canal

@Hoppinggreen ohhh it kinda makes sense ! I must of had a infection for years in that front tooth , only had root canal 1 month ago , it doesn't bother me in the slightest it never goes though , I also had dead tooth next to my front tooth x

If you've had it for 10 years without it changing or causing any problems then it is not cancer.

That's a called a fistula, I have / had an identical one that was treated by the dentist. It used to periodically fill up with pus and then pop. I never actually had any pain in that tooth so was baffled.
Dentist did an X-ray of the tooth which showed a large infection area around the root, so he said the fistula formed to drain pus and excess fluid from the root to the outside.
I had a root canal to treat the infection and the fistula has near enough disappeared and had no pus ever since. It was two years ago.

@GSat see this is where I'm confused! It doesn't have pus I don't think ? Feels hard , but above this lump I could see where the abscess was with pus . That's gone now though . Maybe it is and takes a while to go down . He did say it would take a while to go .. so I have this lump then just above was the lump with pus , maybe I had two ? I'm certain if it was cancer he would spot it . I have health anxiety so my mind just goes wild x

This
One doesn't swell up or change size , or pop . But the one above it did . You can just see it slightly on this pic where the pus lump was x

I had mine for absolutely ages! Probably 10+ years and for a long time there wouldn't be any pus / swelling just the lump. Then all of a sudden it had pus, it came out and the lump went away again. Yours looks identical to mine so im pretty certain it's the same thing. You probably had two openings to the same infection and I absolutely highly doubt it's anything cancerous but of course I'm not a medical professional so it's just mine guess!

No pus for a while. Just poking it with my tongue now and it’s very flat at the moment. It flares us roughly every 3 or 4 months but only for a few days. Not always pus though, sometimes just fluid

Anonymousgirlxoxox · 16/08/2022 08:07

That was the abscess
